During October and November 2022, Saye Theatre held a workshop in Tehran following six months of research into the work of Romanian theatre director Silviu Purcărete.

The workshop was organized as an opportunity for the members of Saye Theatre to become familiar with Purcărete’s approach to directing, performance, and adaptation. Held over six weekly sessions at Degar House, the workshop included screenings of filmed productions of Purcărete’s Faust, Metamorphosis, Gulliver’s Travels, and Oedipus.

Each screening was followed by group discussions focusing on the director’s theatrical methods, his approach to adapting literary and dramatic material, and the possibilities of developing radical forms of theatrical adaptation.

The research for the workshop also benefited from significant support and materials provided by the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu, Romania, which has been closely associated with Purcărete’s work.

The workshop was free of charge and organized as a non-profit educational project. It was supervised by Mehdi Mashhour and Sara Rasoulinejad, with the participation of Saye Theatre members Benyamin Esbati, Mina Zaman, Fahime Hormozi, Sajieh Ashuri, and Sahar Saba.
