Persephone was presented at Newcastle Fringe Festival 2024, where it received the festival’s Best Theatre Show Award. Newcastle Fringe brings performances into different spaces across the city, creating direct encounters between artists, venues, and local audiences. Its programme includes theatre, dance, comedy, music, spoken word, and other forms of live performance. For Saye Theatre, the presentation of Persephone was another opportunity to bring the work into direct contact with an audience outside Iran. The performance was presented in Newcastle as part of the group’s 2024 international activities, following its presentation at Adelaide Fringe. The award became part of the story of the Newcastle presentation, alongside the performances themselves and the encounters they created with the audience.
