The Door at Stockholm Fringe Festival Stockholm, Sweden — 2016

In October 2016, The Door was presented at the Stockholm Fringe Festival (STOFF) in Sweden.

Performed in English, the production was presented by Iran Saye Theatre at Tribunalen in Stockholm as part of STOFF 2016.

Written and directed by Mehdi Mashhour, The Door follows two women who are facing the possibility of emigration. Neither is able to make a clear decision between leaving and staying. Their dilemmas unfold through a series of fragmented episodes, creating a performance about displacement, uncertainty and the meaning of home.

The production combines theatre, movement, sound and music rather than relying on a conventional narrative structure. The two characters remain connected through the physical language of the performance while their experiences unfold in parallel.

The Stockholm presentation came only a few months after the production’s appearance at FringeNYC in New York and continued the international journey that had begun in Germany the previous year.

The Door was presented at Tribunalen on October 8 and 9, 2016.
