In 2015, The Door, written and directed by Mehdi Mashhour, was invited to the 9th International Theatre Festival in Donzdorf, Germany. The festival marked the first international presentation of The Door. The production follows two women facing the experience of immigration, caught between the decision to leave and the possibility of remaining. Through movement, speech, sound and fragmented episodes, the performance approaches immigration as a state of uncertainty rather than a simple journey from one place to another. For Iran Saye Theatre, the invitation to Donzdorf became the first international destination of The Door and the beginning of a series of presentations that would take the production to different countries over the following years. Iran Saye Theatre had previously participated in the Donzdorf festival with The Man and the Words in 2012. The 2015 presentation of The Door marked the group’s second participation in the festival. The production continued its international journey in 2016, with presentations in New York and Stockholm, followed by further performances in Canada and Australia.
